How to Care For Your Hardwood Floor
To insure long-lasting beauty, be sure to protect your hardwood floor from dents, scratches, and nicks. Always use protector pads on the bottoms of your chair and table legs.
Regular Maintenance:
Regular maintenance is important to keep your floors fresh and looking new. Dust and dirt left unattended on the floor could act like sandpaper and mar your floor's finish when subjected to traffic. Common sense and a few simple precautions are all you need for great looking floors. Virginia Flooring, Inc. recommends the following easy maintenance steps:
- Use area rugs.
- Use walk-off mats by outdoor entrance areas to help trap dirt.
- Sweep or vacuum all loose dirt or grit from your floor often.
- Wipe up all spills as soon as possible.
- Clean with floor cleaner in order to freshen your floor and prevent build up. Lightly mist spray directly onto a damp sponge mop or onto a clean cloth. When using a damp mop, first dampen the mop with water and wring as much water as possible out of mop prior to applying floor spray. This keeps excess moisture from seeping between the boards. Allow floor to air dry. No rinsing is necessary.
Do Not Use Wax:
Do not use wax, abrasive chemicals, or oil-based cleaners on finished floors. The use of waxes and polishers will actually make the floor harder to clean because they leave a residue. The chemicals may cause problems later on if the floor needs to be recoated.
